Luke Shaw’s Manchester United career has been a bizarre one thus far. The 22-year-old obviously has all the talent in the world, but for whatever reason, he cannot force his way into Jose Mourinho plans.
A week or so ago, pictures of Shaw emerged looking rather bulky on holiday, which led to the typical social-media furore heading his way. At the end of the day, he was on his break. If he cannot do what he wants at that time, then when can he?
Anyway, fast-forward a week and things are looking rather different for the young left-back. He’s absolutely shredded, a week before he’s due back in for pre-season training with United.

You do feel that this upcoming season is crucial for his Old Trafford career. With Ashley Young ageing and no new left-sided defender signed, there could well be an opening for Shaw.
First and foremost, it’s about staying fit. If he can remain off the treatment table, there is every chance that he’ll displace Young within the team pretty quickly.
He does need a confidence-lift from his manager, though. Rather than publicly berating him, why not try throwing some praise his way and giving Shaw a real run in the team?
