Picture: Man United youngster pens new contract after recent first-team debut

Manchester United have been all about promoting youth for decades. It runs in their DNA.

That won’t change anytime soon, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer showing real faith in the talented up-and-comers that are already at Old Trafford. One of those is James Garner.

Now, the official club website has confirmed that the 18-year-old midfielder, who only made his debut last month, has penned a new long-term deal at the Theatre of Dreams.

Garner will now remain at the club until at least summer 2022, giving United three-and-a-half-years to harness his ability and try to push him on to that next level.

He’s clearly capable of becoming a first-team regular in future and there is absolutely no doubting his ability.

For now, it’s about being patient and waiting for his opportunity. Midfield is a bizarre position at United, but right now, it looks like the senior players are performing pretty well. He has to be ready, though, as injuries can strike at any time. When that chance comes, he has to grasp it.

Hopefully, Garner goes on pre-season tour this summer and we get to see whether he can cut it at the top level.
