Picture: Man United’s key man named in BBC’s Team of the Week after stunning display

Manchester United fans will sleep well tonight. Despite not being at their best, Jose Mourinho’s men stuck four past a poor Everton team. That lifts us up to joint-first in the Premier League table, with a potential stumbling block of a fixture out of the way.

Shortly after the result, the BBC announced Garth Crooks’ Team of the Week. In the team was only one Manchester United player, and there are no prizes for guessing who.

Antonio Valencia opened the scoring with an absolute thunderbolt of a strike that will certainly be in the conversation for Goal of the Season. On top of that, it was an excellent defensive display from the man from Ecuador, as he kept Everton’s wide players quiet throughout.

I also thought that we could see another couple of guys included. Nemanja Matic was absolutely everywhere. He didn’t give Everton’s midfielders any time on the ball whatsoever and I was pleasantly surprised by what he offered going forward.

Then, Romelu Lukaku could have easily been included due to the fact that he scored and picked up an assist as well. I guess we’ll have to settle for just the one this week, but it’s nice for Valencia to get some recognition that he thoroughly deserves.
