PICTURE: Man Utd defender pens new long-term contract

Manchester United have a big rebuilding job on their hands in terms of bringing players in and letting some familiar faces leave, however another part of Edward Woodward’s job is keeping hold of the names currently at the club.

Today Manchester United announced that England defender Phil Jones has signed a new contract at the club, which will keep him at Old Trafford until the summer of 2019.

Its now Jones’ time to shine, and he must nail down a regular spot in the starting XI. His versatility is obviously a big plus for Louis van Gaal, but its up to the 23-year old to settle in one position and really prove his worth to the Iron Tulip.

Upon signing the deal, Jones said:

“I am delighted to have signed a new deal. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here so far and am looking forward to continuing my development as a player.

“This a great club to be part of and I cannot wait to start the new campaign. I would like to thank the manager, coaching staff and fans for their continued support.”
