Picture: Manchester United duo named in Team of the Week for derby day heroics

Manchester United secured a massive three points in the Manchester derby over the weekend, as Louis van Gaal continues his mightily impressive record in the bigger games. Marcus Rashford will take all the plaudits due to his goal, but two others deserve notable mentions.

Both David de Gea and Chris Smalling were named in Garth Crooks’ BBC Team of the Week, and more than deserve their places.

Chris Smalling was our rock at the back from the get-go, and although he may have been lucky to remain on the field in the end, he had Sergio Aguero on lockdown for the majority of the match, continuing his fantastic season.

David de Gea did exactly what we expect him to do now. The Spaniard made a couple of routine saves and marshalled his back line excellently once again. We’re extremely lucky to have a player of his calibre.
