Manchester United Football Club have welcomed Chris Smalling back to first-team training, in timely manner as the club prepare for their Community Shield game against Leicester City this Sunday. This will be massive for Mourinho, who is yet to witness Smalling in action as boss.
The England centre-half has been out injured since the European Championships with the Three Lions, and it’s great to see our defensive leader back involved ahead of the Premier League kicking off next weekend.
It does seem highly unlikely that we’ll see Smalling involved this weekend because of a lack of match fitness, even more so when you remember that he is suspended for the Bournemouth game due to picking up that red card in the FA Cup final.
That said, Smalling will be a real key asset to Mourinho this term. He was without doubt our best defender last season and one of the top performers over the last twelve months. He’ll have a huge part to play.
