Manchester United Football Club made a sublime start to their Champions League campaign – beating FC Basel 3-0 at the Theatre of Dreams. A nasty looking hamstring injury marred the win somewhat, but there was also a huge positive with Ashley Young returning.
The Englishman hadn’t had any pre-season whatsoever and started the match as Manchester United’s right-back. He played an absolute blinder on both sides of the ball, and WhoScored have recognised that by including him in their Team of the Week.

Seriously, Young deserves a whole host of credit for his display. He was absolutely outstanding, and the fact that he did it without barely being fit tells you an awful lot about his character.
Defensively, he was excellent and going forward he offered a threat down that right-hand side. He picked up the assist for the opening goal from Marouane Fellaini due to a peach of a cross.
The 8.51 rating he scored ranks him amongst of some of the best in European football, including Lionel Messi, Edinson Cavani and Harry Kane.
It gives Mourinho another option during the busy period of the season, and personally, I’d love to see him start at left-back against Everton on Sunday.
