Picture: Manchester United’s unsung hero named in Team of the Week after Liverpool display

Manchester United Football Club rescued a point against Liverpool yesterday, with Jose Mourinho’s men having the fighting spirit to not lie down and roll over. The lads kept on working and earned a deserved draw thanks to a late Zlatan Ibrahimovic leveller.

However, one other Manchester United player was named in WhoScored’s Team of the Week, after a dominant defensive display. That man is none other than Phil Jones, who didn’t give Liverpool’s front line a sniff of a chance throughout, and you have to say his recent form has been nothing short of sensational.

The Englishman wasn’t afraid to put his body on the line for the cause, and some of the blocks he made to deny Roberto Firmino and company were great. Credit to him for not letting his bad injury problems stop him from performing at the highest level; and the manager deserves a pat on the back for sticking with him.

His rating of 9.90 puts him as the second highest defensive scorer for WhoScored in the Premier League this weekend, and he’s joined in the team by the likes of Harry Kane, Peter Crouch and Marcos Alonso.
