Picture: Mason Greenwood wins Jimmy Murphy Youth Team Player of the Year award

The first honour from Manchester United’s annual awards ceremony has already been handed out, with the club confirming that Mason Greenwood has won the Jimmy Murphy Youth Team Player of the Year trophy.

Aged just 17, Greenwood has enjoyed a simply stunning season at youth level, scoring 30 goals across three age groups as he continues to develop and grow as a footballer.

This season has certainly been a memorable one for the youngster, particularly after making his first-team debut during *that* night in Paris when United pulled off the impossible.

The Bradford-born forward beat out tough competition from both James Garner and Dylan Levitt to win the award, and as you can see from the photo below he looked pretty happy!

For Greenwood, the only way is up. He’ll have his eyes set on becoming a first-team regular in the not too distant future. The perfect inspiration for him is Marcus Rashford, who simply hasn’t looked back since making his full debut against FC Midtjylland in the Europa League under Louis van Gaal.

Hopefully, we’ll get to see Greenwood in action this coming Sunday when United play their final league game at home to Cardiff City. After being spotted in training earlier today, it definitely looks as though he’ll be fit enough to be involved – which bodes well for the Old Trafford crowd who’re eager to see their next budding star.
