Manchester United Football Club thought they were getting the next big thing when they signed Memphis Depay.
Louis van Gaal sanctioned the move upon his arrival at Old Trafford, but sadly, things didn’t work out.
Fast-forward a few years and the Dutchman is massively impressing out in France with Lyon. The 24-year-old has scored 19 times this term across all competitions.
Despite departing Manchester when Jose Mourinho took charge, Depay obviously still holds the Red Devils close to his heart. That’s what his latest Instagram post suggests anyway…
If you look closely, you can see Depay donning a necklace with the Manchester United crest on it…
Perhaps this is his way of keeping himself motivated. It’s fair to say he didn’t have the best of times here in Manchester, and maybe he’s using that poor spell to his advantage.
Right now, though, Depay is right back at the top of his game. Perhaps his big-money move came just too soon, which is sometimes the case when moving into one of Europe’s big leagues.
Fair play to him for not getting downbeat about the situation. He’s helped his Lyon side to third-placed in the Ligue 1 table; giving them a chance at stealing a Champions League spot heading into the final day.
