For Manchester United, the big games just keep on coming. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men play a crucial FA Cup quarter-final away at Wolverhampton on Saturday evening – with a win guaranteeing a Wembley showdown in the last four.
Before then, though, the Red Devils have been put through their paces in training by the Baby Faced Assassin and his assistant, Mike Phelan. The latter’s work often went underrated during the Sir Alex Ferguson era, but right now, he’s getting all the praise he deserves.
It takes a brave man to come back to Old Trafford after such a successful period in the club’s history, and it would have been oh so easy to say no. However, he’s stepped up in United’s time of need and it’s brilliant to have him back.
Phelan’s Twitter feed has been pretty special since his return, but today’s post from training absolutely tops the lot:
I think it’s the likability, the jokiness and the relaxed manner that certainly makes him who he is. That is working wonders on the current squad and long may that continue.
I just hope that whoever the next permanent manager is has the presence of mind to keep Phelan on because he really is the key ingredient as to what is making us tick right now.
