As an avid supporter of the beautiful game for well over two decades now, I’ve learned to never say never in football. If you’d have told me that Manchester United would pull off a last-minute loan deal for Odion Ighalo 24 hours ago, I’d have called you mad.

Now, the deal has been done and Ighalo becomes the first-ever Nigerian to play for the Old Trafford club – in what was undoubtedly a whirlwind last day for the ex-Watford striker.

Football has a weird habit of throwing up these unthinkable situations and sometimes, dreams really do come true. Shortly after the news broke, the Daily Star ran a story based around an incredible photo of a young Ighalo rocking the iconic 2005/06 away kit. Quality.

Check out the photo of Odion Ighalo wearing the Man United 05/06 away kit here:

Simply put, playing for United would have undoubtedly felt like an impossibility just yesterday. Ighalo literally went to sleep as a Shanghai Shenhua player and woke up a Red Devil. Words probably can’t describe his unbelievable joy right now.

For what it’s worth, I think Ighalo is a no-lose situation for United. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer now has an extra body to utilise, while Ighalo actually has a pretty decent scoring record in English football. No doubt he’ll be hungry to prove he’s worth a permanent contract at the Theatre of Dreams, and I actually think he’ll surprise a few people during his time in Manchester.

Welcome to the biggest club in the world, Odion!
