PICTURE: Potential Man Utd 4-4-2 vs Preston – Wilson starts

Manchester United’s attentions will switch to cup football once again, with a tricky tie against Preston North End on the horizon. Louis van Gaal will be hoping for a first-time passage past the League One side, as he’ll be hoping for a much-improved performance after struggling against Cambridge in round four.

The formation will probably be a flat 4-4-2, with a debut given to Victor Valdes in goal. He’ll have a young back four in front of him, including Paddy McNair and Luke Shaw at right and left-back respectively.

Ander Herrera will hopefully get a rare start alongside Marouane Fellaini, with Adnan Januzaj and Antonio Valencia either side of the pair. Wayne Rooney will return to a striker role, partnered by fellow Englishman James Wilson.
