Former Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is to receive the honorary freedom of Trafford borough on October 14th, he’ll also be recognised by the local authority after the renaming of a road leading up to Old Trafford. Waters Reach Way, which is a stones throw away from Old Trafford, will be newly renamed Sir Alex Ferguson Way.
The Manchester United legend already received gestures for his services from the club, including the North Stand being renamed the Sir Alex Ferguson Stand. He also had a statue built in his honour.
Sir Alex said:
‘I am delighted to accept this honour from Trafford Council. When I arrived at Old Trafford in 1986 I had little idea of the journey that awaited me. Over quarter of a century later, to receive the Freedom of the Borough of Trafford and to have a part of Trafford carrying my name is truly humbling.’
