Manchester United had a rather poor Christmas period, but had an upturn in their fortunes away at Everton. Jose Mourinho’s men picked up an excellent 2-0 victory, with the Red Devils looking superb, particularly in the second 45.
Once again, Jesse Lingard found himself on the scoresheet after another brilliant display in the #10 role. That was his third goal in the week, following a brace against Burnley on Boxing Day.
For the two excellent back-to-back displays, 24-year-old Lingard earned his place in Garth Crooks’ BBC Premier League Team of the Week, alongside the likes of Raheem Serling, Alexis Sanchez and Harry Kane.
It’s been delightful watching Lingard perform at such a high level over the last month. He’s really starting to prove his worth to manager Mourinho, and it’s great watching him succeed, particularly after getting pelters from large portions of the fanbase.
His movement is arguably the best we have within the squad at the moment, and the intelligent runs he makes always create opportunities for his teammates. Another aspect of his game that has improved hugely is his finishing. We’ve seen some real quality moments from him, and they’ve come at crucial times, too. Hopefully, he’ll continue to develop and grow over the season’s duration.
