Manchester United showed real resilience to shut out Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday, as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men saw their rhythm hampered by injuries galore.
To the Red Devils’ credit, they never gave up. Every single player out on that field were fully committed to the cause and it was brilliant to see their effort.
That definitely didn’t go unnoticed by the Theatre of Dreams supporters, who made loads of noise when the team needed it most.
The whole defence certainly stood out, but statistically, one shone brighter than the most by earning a spot in WhoScored’s Team of the Week. That was Ashley Young.
Earning a 7.4 rating, Young was more than deserving of his spot in the side. Keeping that multi-talented attack quiet for 90 minutes isn’t easy, and despite now getting up there in age, the ex-Aston Villa man was excellent; particularly defensively.
You just have to admire his desire and attitude. As the captain, he certainly lead from the front and spurred his teammates on when they needed it most. Getting up and down that pitch, keeping pace with Sadio Mane deserves huge credit. He definitely got plenty of help from others, though.
I’d also like to mention the work that Luke Shaw did. The left-back did an equally brilliant job o the left-hand side and I was surprised that he wasn’t included in the team, too.
