Manchester United fans were hit hard when Wayne Rooney left Manchester United.
The Red Devils legend won the lot while at Old Trafford, but it felt like the timing was right when the striker moved back to Merseyside to play for his beloved Everton. Since then, another career move followed, with the Croxteth-born-forward heading across the pond to the MLS.
Rooney’s impact was swiftly felt, as DC United shot up the table and into the play-off picture. Sure, their post-season run may have ended prematurely, but it was only possible thanks to the England man.
To our surprise, Rooney was given a rare opportunity to pull on the Three Lions jersey once more, in a game, ironically, against the nation where he now plies his trade. That match takes place this coming Thursday, before then, though, Rooney has been back in training with Gareth Southgate and the boys:
While some may have doubts about Rooney’s return, it’s only a friendly fixture, so why not let him enjoy one final moment playing for the country that he gave absolutely everything for? It does no harm, there is nothing on the line in the game, plus, England’s all-time top goalscorer certainly deserves it. Who knows, he may add to that tally on Thursday, and we’d all love him to hit the back of the net one more time.
