Player Ratings: Aston Villa 1-1 Manchester United

David de Gea – Didn’t have an awful lot to do but made one stunning save from a powerful Christian Benteke header in the first half. 6/10

Antonio Valencia – The Ecuadorian looked lively in the first half, and he was causing the Villa defence problems with his pace. The game changed when he was subbed off. 6/10

Phil Jones – In truth he didn’t have an awful lot to do. He made a few decent blocks to deny Benteke from scoring again. 6/10

Michael Carrick – Kept it solid at the back in the first half, and began to pull the strings as he moved into midfield for the second 45. You’d imagine United probably would’ve won if he started central. 8/10

Jonny Evans – He looked lost at times, and surely could’ve done a lot better for Villa’s opener. 4/10

Ashley Young – Did extremely well for Falcao’s stunning header. Put in a few decent crosses and played quite well despite the booing from the Villa faithful. 7/10

Darren Fletcher – He looked lost. Couldn’t find a teammate and didn’t really have the legs to track back and protect the back four. Rightly subbed off at half-time. 2/10

Juan Mata – His usual away from home struggles continued. Whether its down to the formation and United preferring to play on the counter I’m not so sure, but he doesn’t have as big of an impact away from home. Very quiet. 4/10

Wayne Rooney – Our club captain started the game in the middle of the park. He sprayed some nice passes out wide but they weren’t really meaningful. In the second half he moved further forward and had a much bigger impact on the game. 6/10

Robin van Persie – Held the ball up well, but wasn’t really given a sniff at goal by the solid Villa defenders. 6/10

Radamel Falcao – Took his goal wonderfully. It was a typical Falcao goal, he wasn’t given anything all afternoon, but the one chance he got he dispatched it brilliantly. It was great to see him get 90 minutes under his belt. 7/10

Subs:

Tyler Blackett – Came in and didn’t really have an awful lot of defending to do. Picked up a silly yellow card though. 5/10

James Wilson – Looked lively, but gave the bar away far too cheaply on a couple of occasions. 5/10

Angel di Maria – Came on, had a few decent shots and worried the Villa defenders. Nice to have him back. 6/10
