Player Ratings: Magnificent Mata gives Reds lead, shoddy defending costs them dear

David de Gea – Maybe could have done better with Leicester’s second, but wasn’t tested apart from that. 5/10

Victor Lindelof – Positionally, he was woeful. I’ll give him the benefit due to the fact he was playing at right-back. 4/10

Chris Smalling – Looked shaky at times. Did shocking for Maguire’s late goal, but he was nursing an injury, so he shouldn’t have been back there. 3/10

Phil Jones – There is no in between with Jones, he’s either magnificent or shocking. Tonight? The latter. 3/10

Ashley Young – Average. 5/10

Nemanja Matic – Won his personal midfield battle. 5/10

Paul Pogba – Created so many chances. Was let down by his teammates. 6/10

Juan Mata – His first was a brilliant finish, his second an outstanding free-kick. For some reason, he was subbed off. 7/10

Jesse Lingard – Lively. Like so many others, he should have scored after he rounded the keeper. 4/10

Anthony Martial – Looked great going forward, but missed an absolute sitter. 4/10

Romelu Lukaku – Was outstanding. Worked his socks off, created chances and played brilliantly. Deserved to be on the winning side. 7/10

Subs:

Ander Herrera – Lively.

Marcus Rashford – Had a couple of opportunities late on. Should have done better.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan – Not enough time to mark.
