Player Ratings: Man United 2-2 AC Milan (5-4 on pens)

David de Gea – Made a stunning stop midway through the first-half. An argument can be made he could have done better to stop Suso’s long-range effort. 6/10

Aaron Wan-Bissaka – How good does it feel to have a proper right-back? He was exceptional again. Tough in the tackle, a willing runner and positionally solid. 7/10

Marcos Rojo – Not too bad. Looked a little rusty which is understandable given his lack of minutes. I doubt we’ll see him with regularity this season. 5/10

Victor Lindelof – Continues to grow as a player, though I’d like to see more calmness about him with his back to goal. 6/10

Luke Shaw – Pretty good on both sides of the ball. Was unlucky with a well-timed shot late on. 6/10

Nemanja Matic – Turns like the Titanic, looks uncomfortable on the ball. Overall, just way off the pace… 3/10

Scott McTominay – Probably his least productive game of the tour. Happy to give him the benefit of the doubt, mind, as there was no real attacking presence next to him. 5/10

Andreas Pereira – I like this lad but I’m not quite sure what his job is? He’s an excellent presser of the ball, but that’s about it. This season is make or break for his United career. 5/10

Juan Mata – Could he start against Chelsea? Possibly. You know what you’re going to get from him… On-ball quality but with a lack of pace and physicality. 5/10

Anthony Martial – Started the game as the main striker and moved pretty well. I think he’ll play in the season opener. 5/10

Marcus Rashford – Energetic, quick, skilfull. Rashford brought it all to the table and capped off a fine performance with a goal. We need a big season from the lad. 8/10

Subs:

Ashley Young – Scored his shootout goal. Was pretty average aside from that.

Daniel James – Lively, busy, looked sharp. Scored the match-winning penalty.

Axel Tuanzebe – Pretty solid once again. For me he has to be the third choice centre-half this season.

Fred – Kept things ticking over nicely.

Jesse Lingard – Looked brilliant as a substitute. Made darting runs, broke through the defensive lines and was a real threat. Scored an excellent goal, too.

Angel Gomes – Lashed home his penalty and looked threatening all round.

Mason Greenwood – Scored his spot-kick too.
