David de Gea – Made a few relatively easy saves. Didn’t really have to do an awful lot despite picking the ball out of his net twice… 5/10
Ashley Young – Pretty poor. Struggled with Newcastle’s pace and trickery, while not being mobile enough to bomb forward and join in on the attack. 3/10
Chris Smalling – Looked shaky to start with. As United built up in confidence, Smalling did too. He got better as the evening went on. 6/10
Eric Bailly – He’s the fall-guy for this one. United needed to take off a defender and go more offensive. I’m not sure I can see a way back for him under Mourinho. 4/10
Luke Shaw – He fought, scratched, clawed for every ball. At times he was joining Martial right on that left-wing. His excellent season continues. 6/10
Nemanja Matic – Poor. Immobile. Slow. United need more from the man who is supposed to break up opponents attacks. He was like a statue at times. 3/10
Scott McTominay – I’m just not sure where to go with my rating here. He was ok, but not really influential. He’s just an average level footballer. 4/10
Paul Pogba – Brilliant. I’ve been his biggest critic over the last month, but today, he showed the world that he still wants to give his all for this football club. Well played. 7/10
Marcus Rashford – Uncharacteristically poor. He looked leggy, tired and a bit off the pace. 4/10
Anthony Martial – Started slowly, but in that last 20 minutes, he was dynamite. Every single time he touched the ball, you expected something to happen. He deserves a good run in the team. 8/10
Romelu Lukaku – Not good. His touch was heavy, his passing was wayward. In the dying embers, things improved, but his overall display wasn’t anywhere near good enough. 3/10
Juan Mata – Scored the free-kick that brought the momentum back to United’s side. He was exceptional today. The orchestrator behind a stunning comeback.
Alexis Sanchez – Scored the winner with a super header. A kick-start to his season?
Marouane Fellaini – Again, he was magnificent. Won headers, played the right pass, got United on the front-foot.
