Player Ratings: Man United lose FA Cup final, Jones & Sanchez woeful

David de Gea – Literally had nothing to do – except pick the ball out of his net. 6/10

Antonio Valencia – Looks shattered at full-time. Worked his socks off but with very little reward or output. A poor afternoon. 4/10

Phil Jones – Woeful defending, particularly on Eden Hazard. Why on earth did he go to ground and give away a needless penalty? I guess we’ll never know. 2/10

Chris Smalling – Fared slightly better than his counterpart. Dealt with Olivier Giroud well, but there was still a shaky moment or two. 4/10

Ashley Young – He works hard, but Ashley Young just isn’t a full-back.  His final ball was awful, too. 3/10

Nemanja Matic – Probably the pick of the bunch. Won tackles, passed the ball forward and tried to drive the team on. Sadly, he didn’t get much help. 6/10

Paul Pogba – Struggled in the first 45, improved in the second. Had a glorious chance to draw United level but couldn’t take it. Today summed up his season. 5/10

Ander Herrera – Had a very quiet afternoon which is unlike him. 4/10

Jesse Lingard – Showed some nice touches, made some nice runs, but didn’t ever look threatening. 4/10

Alexis Sanchez – Very poor. Heavy touches, poor passes and no real cutting edge. 3/10

Marcus Rashford – Doesn’t have the physicality to be a real #9, nor seemingly didn’t want to run in-behind and trouble Chelsea with his pace. An evening to forget. 4/10

Subs:

Romelu Lukaku – Just didn’t look fit to me.

Anthony Martial – Looked lively. Didn’t trouble Chelsea though.

Juan Mata – Not enough time to mark.
