Player Ratings: Manchester United 0-1 Southampton FC

David de Gea – Couldn’t do anything about the goal, largely untested putting that aside. 5/10

Matteo Darmian – Wasn’t having the best game of his career before being subbed off due to injury. 4/10

Chris Smalling – Didn’t do enough on Southampton’s goal. 4/10

Daley Blind – Was far too sloppy in passing out from the back. 4/10

Cameron Borthwick-Jackson – For a man of just eighteen he looked extremely solid. On the whole he did well. 5/10

Marouane Fellaini – Didn’t really do an awful lot in possession, when you expect you’re midfielders to contribute in terms of moving the ball forward. 4/10

Morgan Schneiderlin – Did the defensive duties well enough, but once again, was lacking going forward. 5/10

Anthony Martial – Full of pace and energy but that cutting edge was missing. 5/10

Ander Herrera – Lively, and ran from box-to-box all game, but you expect more penetration. 5/10

Jesse Lingard – Quiet. Didn’t go at his marker anywhere near enough. 4/10

Wayne Rooney – Didn’t do anywhere near enough in terms of going forward. 4/10

Subs:

Paddy McNair – Did well, despite not playing all that much recently.

Adnan Januzaj – Gave away the free-kick that led to Southampton’s winner.

Juan Mata – Brought some spark to the game but didn’t do an awful lot.
