Player Ratings: Manchester United 1-2 Swansea City

David de Gea – Should’ve done better with Swansea’s second, but had no chance to stop the opener. 5/10

Chris Smalling – Looked poor on the ball, and was hesitant at times. Did his defensive duties to a decent enough standard when called upon. 5/10

Phil Jones – Handled the physical presence of Bony very well, but he needs to improve on his passing. 6/10

Tyler Blackett – Looked nervy at times, but on the whole he did ok considering it was his Premier League debut. Gave the ball away for Swansea’s second. 5/10

Ashley Young – Back to his awful best after an excellent pre-season. Didn’t even attempt to beat his man, and always went for the safe pass. 3/10

Ander Herrera – Caught in possession a fair few times, but unlucky to be subbed off just after the hour. 5/10

Darren Fletcher – Struggled to impose himself on the game. His passing was awful at times. 4/10

Jesse Lingard – Made a bright start before being forced off due to injury. 6/10

Juan Mata – Wasted a lot of set pieces, and didn’t really boss the game as you’d expect. 4/10

Wayne Rooney – Scored with a superb bit of technique, but didn’t really do an awful lot putting that aside. 4/10

Javier Hernandez – Very lacklustre. Looks sluggish, and disinterested. Didn’t get great service either, in his defence. 3/10

Subs:

Adnan Januzaj – Glided past his man a few times, on the whole did alright. 6/10

Marouane Fellaini – Won a few important tackles, and made himself a target man. 5/10

Nani – Average. Full of intent but lacked any real end product. 5/10
