Player Ratings: Manchester United 2-0 Hull City – Mata masterclass

David de Gea – Had a really quiet evening at Old Trafford and wasn’t really tested by the Hull City team. 5/10

Antonio Valencia – Very happy to run up and down that touchline all game. Did well on both sides of the ball. 6/10

Phil Jones – Didn’t really have an awful lot to do. Kept it tight and didn’t give Hull’s forwards a sniff. 5/10

Chris Smalling – Similar to Jones to be honest. Had a quiet match but that’s always positive as a centre-half. Wasn’t afraid to bring the ball out from defence. 6/10

Matteo Darmian – Played some nice balls into the box from that left-back position. His defensive awareness was questionable at times, though. 5/10

Paul Pogba – It was easy for him this evening. Just bossed it from start to finish, and unlucky not to have a goal after he clattered the post from a free-kick. 7/10

Ander Herrera – Did well, and got United moving in the right direction. He is really flourishing under Jose Mourinho. 6/10

Henrikh Mkhitaryan – Could’ve had a couple in the first-half. His dribbling ability is simply sublime to watch. 6/10

Wayne Rooney – No 250th Manchester United strike for him today, unfortunately. Drifted in and out of things, but should’ve scored after Paul Pogba played him through gloriously. 5/10

Juan Mata – Controlled the game from start to finish. Some of his movement, passes and touches were out of this world. More than deserved his goal. 8/10

Marcus Rashford – Looked sharp and lively, but didn’t have much end product this evening. 4/10

Anthony Martial – Brought some more pace to the game and gave Hull something else to think about.

Jesse Lingard – Kept it simple and helped United see out the win.

Marouane Fellaini – Scored the second with an outstanding looping header. Played well.
