Player Ratings: Manchester United 2-1 Leicester City (Community Shield)

David de Gea – Didn’t really have an awful lot to do. Wasn’t helped out at all by Marouane Fellaini. 6/10

Antonio Valencia – Played extremely well. His ball to Zlatan for the winner was inch-perfect. 7/10

Eric Bailly – He’s so calm on the ball it was brilliant to see. Put in a top performance. 8/10

Daley Blind – Did alright, but lacks the physicality of a top-class centre-back. 6/10

Luke Shaw – So good to have him back. Buccaneered up and down that left-hand side all game. 7/10

Michael Carrick – Looked sluggish. His passing was average. 5/10

Marouane Fellaini – It was a horrendous error that led to Vardy’s goal. Aside from that he played pretty well. 5/10

Jesse Lingard – What a stunning solo goal. Unfortunately, he picked up an injury in the second-half. 7/10

Wayne Rooney – Awful. Couldn’t pick out a red shirt in the first-half. You expect him to grab the game by the scruff of its neck but he didn’t. 3/10

Anthony Martial – Very quiet by his high standards. Hopefully, it’s down to a lack of match fitness rather than anything else. 4/10

Zlatan Ibrahimovic – Held the ball up nicely, but didn’t really offer anything until scoring the winner late on, which is all that matters. 6/10

Subs:

Ander Herrera – Looked lively.

Juan Mata – Unfortunate to get subbed off, but didn’t really do much.

Marcos Rojo – Gave Musa a huge opportunity, luckily it wasn’t taken.

Marcus Rashford – Showed his pace.

Morgan Schneiderlin – Not enough time to mark.
