Player Ratings: Rampant Romelu Lukaku powers United to 2-0 win

Sergio Romero – Wasn’t really tested. Distributed the ball well. 6/10

Ashley Young – Limited offensively and was caught out of position on occasion. You expect his final ball to be better. 5/10

Chris Smalling – Defended brilliantly. Didn’t give Huddersfield’s attackers any time or space on the ball. He also won the aerial battle. 7/10

Victor Lindelof – The Swede looked confident, assured and in control. A much better display this time around at the John Smith’s Stadium. 6/10

Luke Shaw – Was isolated as Huddersfield looked to attack down his side. He coped well. 6/10

Nemanja Matic – Got bypassed far too easily in the first-half. 5/10

Michael Carrick – He’s still a classy customer despite being 36. Player-coach next season? 5/10

Scott McTominay – Grew into the game. Although I’d like him to expand on his passing range, however. 5/10

Juan Mata – Scored a perfectly good goal that was ruled out through VAR. Was quiet, though. 5/10

Alexis Sanchez – Drifted in and out of the match. His pass into Lukaku for his second was great, though. 6/10

Romelu Lukaku – What a performance. He played like a proper striker and was extremely clinical. Got two clear-cut opportunities, scored two goals. 8/10

Substitutes:

Anthony Martial – Showed some excellent glimpses of his trickery and creative genius.

Jesse Lingard – Not enough time to get involved.

Eric Bailly – Brilliant to see him back in action.
