Player Ratings: United 2-0 Crystal Palace

David Moyes secured his first Old Trafford victory with a 2-0 win yesterday. Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney provided the goals with a penalty and a free-kick respectively in a game Manchester United dominated from start to finish. There were debuts for Marouane Fellaini and Adnan Januzaj off the bench, and both came on and thoroughly impressed.

Crystal Palace’s uphill battle was made worse when they were reduced to ten men right at the end of the first half. Somewhat disappointingly though, United couldn’t press on and score more goals than they did.

David de Gea – Had an extremely quiet game thanks to the defence. Only had one shot to deal with which he closed down well. 6/10

Fabio – Average from Fabio. He didn’t look fully fit but nevertheless tried hard. Still has the potential to be a top player. 6/10

Rio Ferdinand – Cool as a cucumber. It was a relatively easy day for Rio, and he was in control of everything that came his way. 7/10

Nemanja Vidic – Nemanja was solid as a rock, his dominance in the air was excellent to see. Nobody was getting passed the big Serb yesterday. 7/10

Patrice Evra – Bombed forward and did well. If he continues to play like that all year then Patrice will have another stellar season. 7/10

Michael Carrick – Thanks to Roy Hodgson Carrick was in excellent shape today. He controlled the game throughout. 7/10

Anderson – It couldn’t have gone much worse for Anderson except for one excellent pass. He looked disappointed to be subbed off. 5/10

Antonio Valencia – The wide man didn’t really see much of the ball, but when he had it he did alright. 6/10

Wayne Rooney – Excellent. He was at the heart of everything good for United, and that free-kick was a brilliant piece of technique. Man of the Match. 8/10

Ashley Young – Not sure why so many Reds are getting on his back. His dive was shocking, yes, but apart from that he had a good game. 6/10

Robin van Persie – Did well, and perhaps should’ve scored more than the one goal. Linked up well with Rooney.

Subs:

Marouane Fellaini – Impacted the game. He started playing passes all over the park, and also got an excellent reception.

Adnan Januzaj – What a promising little cameo. He looked at ease in the Premier League and won the foul that led to Rooney’s goal.

Chicharito – Not enough time to mark.
