David Moyes duly delivered in his first competitive game as United boss in a comfortable 2-0 victory over fellow North-West side Wigan Athletic. The Latics never really tested us throughout the game, and United didn’t have to move out of second gear to achieve the win.
It was nice for Moyes to get his United career off to a winning start. Hopefully that was the first of many trophies that will be won under the 50-year old Scot.
David de Gea – Didn’t have an awful lot to do. 6/10
Rafael – Unfortunately subbed off with an injury. Not enough time to mark.
Phil Jones – Started at centre-half and moved over to right-back. He offered himself as an outlet down the right often and tackled well. 6/10
Nemanja Vidic – The big Serbian adds so much to our team, he commanded the box well. 7/10
Patrice Evra – Had an excellent game. Played a brilliant cross to Van Persie for his first, did defensive duties well too. 7/10
Wilfried Zaha – Loves to beat his man and did so time and time again. Unfortunate he picked up a slight injury. 6/10
Michael Carrick – What an excellent player. Picked the strikers out with pin-point passes time and time again. Ran the midfield. Man of the Match. 8/10
Tom Cleverley – Kept it simple and kept the ball moving. Didn’t really threaten though. 6/10
Ryan Giggs – The 39-year old keeps on impressing. He kept hold of possession well and tracked back when needed. 6/10
Danny Welbeck – Worked hard, pressed high up the field and held up play well. 7/10
Robin van Persie – Scored a brace. His first header was absolutely superb, although he got lucky with his second. 8/10
Chris Smalling – Used as an early sub due to Rafael’s injury. Smalling did a good job although wasn’t really tested. 6/10
Antonio Valencia – Fresh after giving up the #7 shirt, Valencia did well. He beat his man often and played some decent balls across. 6/10
Anderson – Ran with the ball and made some good passes. 6/10
Shinji Kagawa – Not enough time to mark.
Adnan Januzaj – Not enough time to mark.
