Player Ratings: United shocking all-round as Derby dump us out of Carabao Cup

Sergio Romero – Saw red for handling outside the area. Looked shaky throughout. 3/10

Diogo Dalot – Did well, played in an inch-perfect cross for Fellaini’s leveller. 6/10

Phil Jones – Awful. Positionally dreadful. Missed his penalty. Everyone knew it as he made the long walk up, too… 2/10

Eric Bailly – Not too bad. Looked pretty confident, won tackles and commanded the box. There were one or two shaky moments, but it was much better from him this time around. 5/10

Ashley Youg – Captained the side. Looked threatening when going forward. Decent defensively. 5/10

Nemanja Matic – Too careless at times. Gave away way too many fouls. 4/10

Ander Herrera – Lively, energetic. Herrera’s problem remains the same. He isn’t a gamechanger when United are going forward. 4/10

Juan Mata – Took his goal wonderfully well. Was pretty ineffective from that point forward. 5/10

Jesse Lingard – He was busy and made some good runs, but that’s about it. Drifted in and out of the match far too often. 4/10

Anthony Martial – Threatened throughout. Probably United’s most promising player. Should keep Alexis Sanchez on the bench. 7/10

Romelu Lukaku – Guilty of missing two golden opportunities that would have likely killed the game. An evening to forget for the big Belgian. 3/10

Marouane Fellaini – Fought, scored late, tucked away his penalty. Well played.

Fred – Scored his penalty, that was his only moment of note.

Lee Grant – Made a great save in normal time, but didn’t get close to any of the spot-kicks.
