Potential relocation of away fans at Old Trafford?

Yesterday the club announced that the visiting teams fans may be relocated from the South-East corner of Old Trafford, up to the newly renamed Sir Alex Ferguson stand third tier.

The game later on in the season will be seen as a “trial” watched by the local police to see if the proposed move will work, the idea has been around for some time and if the trial is sucessful the club will try to implement a permanent switch in time for next season.

” After a lot of detailed analysis to find the best solution, the club has decided that, subject to the trial, away fans are best relocated to the third tier of the Sir Alex Ferguson Stand. Segregation is a lot easier in that part of the ground and will result in far fewer wasted seats.

In addition, the third tier is often the first part of the ground that people hold a season ticket in, before transferring to other parts of the stadium in better positions once those seats become available. Nearly half the ST holders in Tier 3 have held their tickets for less than two years. This is important because it means that, in order to solve this problem we have actively sought to disturb the fewest long-standing ST holders possible.”

Personally I think this is a good idea as more seats will be available to the home fans, also it makes segregation from the away fans much easier.
