Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic is determined to hold out for a move to Manchester United, as he wants to reunite with Jose Mourinho. That’s according to the Daily Star, who adds that the 28-year-old powerhouse wants his future cleared up within the next 48 hours.
The man from Serbia has been told that he can leave Stamford Bridge following the arrival of Tiemoue Bakayoko from AS Monaco. Although, Conte’s club would much prefer to sell him abroad, with Juventus showing an interest.
However, if the player has his heart set on a move to the Theatre of Dreams, then Chelsea’s hand could well be forced.
On top of that, the money would be better for him with the Red Devils. Apparently, Juve would offer him a three-year deal worth £125,000-a-week, whereas United would table a four-year contract, netting him a nice £150,000-a-week. If I were him, it’d be an absolute no brainer.
Matic has been left out of Chelsea’s pre-season tour squad, which strongly suggests that he could well be on the move this summer, and what a signing he would be.
At first, I was slightly underwhelmed at the prospect of bringing him in, but the extra protection he’d give to the back four would be so important, particularly in those close-knit matches. The report reckons that Chelsea will let him leave for £40million, which isn’t expensive at all in the current climate.
