Choosing a predicted Man Utd XI for this weekend’s game vs Chelsea was always going to be a struggle. However, we’ve given it our best shot…
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has a pretty good record against Chelsea and Frank Lampard and we’d all love for that to continue this weekend. However, our big-spending opponents are, like us, moving in the right direction. This game will be a real struggle for both teams.
With injuries and suspensions decimating the United squad, it was pretty tricky picking a team and working out what the Baby Faced Assassin is thinking. In the end, we’ve settled on a 4-3-3 as opposed to the back-five which worked so well in midweek. That said, it was a close call and I’d imagine the boss is pondering going down that route again.
This game is exciting. We’ll likely see our first glimpse of Edinson Cavani in some capacity due to the Anthony Martial suspension, while the likes of Donny van de Beek continues to push hard for a starting berth.
Anyway, let’s get right into the team we think United will go with and I’d like to think they’re more than capable of getting the job done…
Predicted Man Utd XI vs Chelsea in full:
David de Gea was pretty sublime in midweek against Paris Saint-Germain and I don’t doubt we’re going to need another similar performance this weekend. Hopefully, our superstar Spaniard can live up to expectations.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka was another top performer in midweek and he was always going to start this one. The Alex Telles or Luke Shaw debate on the left-hand side is close, but you’d imagine the Brazilian will get the nod. Harry Maguire should recover from injury in time to captain the team, partnering Victor Lindelof at the heart of our defence.
Nemanja Matic will be feeling well-rested after a couple of games off, so he’ll replace Scott McTominay in the team. Bruno Fernandes was absolutely sensational last time out and he’ll be our catalyst again here. Donny van de Beek has been made to wait patiently for his first Premier League start. This is his moment.
Anthony Martial is still suspended so Marcus Rashford will return to the line-up as the striker. Mason Greenwood will start despite concerns about disciplinary issues, with Daniel James completing the team.
Edinson Cavani will take his spot on the bench as he looks to build up the fitness. Paul Pogba, Juan Mata, Scott McTominay, Fred and Luke Shaw give the gaffer options in several positions. This squad is slowly starting to take shape…
