Preview: Manchester City v Manchester United

Manchester United’s attentions turn back to Premier League football this weekend, with Louis van Gaal’s side having a short journey to the Etihad to take on their fiercest of rivals. The two sides met earlier in the season in a boring 0-0 at Old Trafford, but now we’re in the business end of the season there is plenty more at stake.

Team News:

Both sides have a few big injuries, with the usually reliable PhysioRoom citing Manchester City with four players out, whereas Manchester United are without no fewer than seven key figures.

The home side will be without their captain Vincent Kompany, who limped off in considerable pain during the 0-0 draw at home to Kyiv on Tuesday, and he could be done for the season. They also have long-term casualties in the form of Kevin de Bruyne and Samir Nasri.

Manchester United’s injury list starts with their captain Wayne Rooney, who is set to return at the end of the month. Luke Shaw is done for the season by all accounts, with the game coming too soon for both Antonio Valencia and Phil Jones.

Match Betting

Manchester United are in fact the underdogs for this game, which is a rare surprise. With both teams misfiring and looking a bit lacklustre at the moment, the 0-0 draw could be a good bet. City are obviously favourites as they have the home field advantage.

Predicted Score: Manchester City 0-0 Manchester United

I don’t expect either side to really go for it in this one despite it being a Manchester derby. Both teams look bereft of confidence, and you feel they’d snap your hand off for a boring 0-0 draw right now.
