‘Proud and happy’ David de Gea sends message to fans after signing new Man United deal

Manchester United eventually managed to convince David de Gea to put pen on paper on a new, long-term Manchester United deal. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer deserves serious credit for that.

The superstar Spaniard will remain at Old Trafford for at least another four years, the club have the option for a fifth if they decide to trigger that clause in his contract.

Anyway, shortly after signing a new deal, De Gea took to Twitter to send a simple but effective message to the United fans. It read ‘proud and happy’. Honestly, that’s all we needed. Over the last few years, all we’ve asked for is players who want to play for the badge. The 28-year-old has worn that United kit with pride.

I actually don’t think De Gea gets enough credit for his loyalty. It would have been oh so easy for him to kick up a fuss and go to Real Madrid a few years ago. Instead, he never moaned, worked even harder and continued to prove to the world just how classy he is.

What I hope for now is that he knows his future is secure so he’ll cut out those mistakes and get back to his brilliant best. For me, he’s still the top-dog in between the sticks and from now until Christmas, I fully believe he’ll prove that to the world.
