The January transfer window is now open, and as you’d expect Manchester United are being linked with moves for defenders left, right and centre. Next up on the list is Ron Vlaar, who Louis van Gaal is reportedly ‘keeping tabs’ on, according to the Manchester Evening News.
Ron Vlaar is a player whom Louis van Gaal knows very well, and the man nicknamed ‘Concrete Ron’ is clearly a player who our manager trusts. The move would make sense from that standpoint, and the current Villa captain would bring that experience our young back line needs.
The 29-year old had a sensational World Cup with Holland in the summer, and he certainly continued that form back to his club side. He’d certainly be available on the cheap side too, with his contract expiring at the end of the season.
There would be far worse short-term fixes to go for than Ron Vlaar. He has Premier League experience, and we’ve all seen he is capable at playing on the highest stage of world football by looking at his World Cup experience.
He could slot straight into the heart of United’s back five, and he knows Louis van Gaal’s formation inside-out. For me, he’s worth the gamble, and hopefully this move will be completed before the transfer window slams shut in a few weeks time.
