Manchester United have made some big-money signings during this transfer window, with Jose Mourinho luring in players like Paul Pogba on a world record deal. However, one man who remains at the club despite anger from plenty of the fanbase is Wayne Rooney.
In a recent column, Stan Collymore has spoken out about the Wayne Rooney situation, and gives a damning review of his poor performance at the weekend – despite our captain getting himself a goal.
Collymore went on to add that he cannot see anything else happening, other than a lengthy period on the bench for our club captain. Wayne Rooney has been poor for quite some time now, but you always felt like neither David Moyes or Louis van Gaal had it in them to drop him.
“When Mkhitaryan & Pogba come into the team I can’t honestly see anything other than a prolonged spell on the bench for the Scouser.” Stan Collymore wrote in his column.
With Jose Mourinho in charge, he’s the most likely manager we’ve had to drop Wayne Rooney despite his dressing room influence, but sadly, I cannot see it happening anytime soon.
For as long as the 30-year-old still makes an impact on the game, he’ll always get a spot in the side. If United keep winning, he’ll stay in the side. I think it’ll take some atrocious performances for anything to happen, and it won’t be for a few months down the line.
