Rakitic unlikely to make Man United move due to family reasons: report

Manchester United Football Club are a long way away from the January transfer window – and signings are desperately needed.

The main problem is that it’s notoriously hard to buy in the mid-season transfer period. However, needs-must and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer simply has to pull out all the stops.

One player who has been linked with a potential Old Trafford switch recently is FC Barcelona playmaker Ivan Rakitic. However, it seems as though that move is already dead in the water.

ESPN writes that the 31-year-old midfielder is ‘available’ though a move to United is unlikely, citing ‘family reasons’.

Honestly, who knows what the personal issues are? Perhaps Rakitic doesn’t want to move his family at this stage in his career and maybe he’d like to stay in Spain for that very reason.

At this point, though, if you were a player with serious aspirations would you really want to make the switch to the Theatre of Dreams right now? Whether we like it or not, we have to realise where we are at the moment and attracting the top players could be a serious problem for the time being.

ESPN does offer one final snippet, naming players like John McGinn, Moussa Dembele, James Maddison, Declan Rice and Callum Wilson as potential Reds targets – though there is an acceptance at United that the majority of these deals will have to wait until next summer.
