I think it’s fair to say that after an excellent pre-season, things haven’t gone quite as planned for Manchester United and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

So-much-so that the fans are almost reaching breaking point and they could well be calling for a new manager in the not too distant future…

Anyway today, SportBILD’s head of football, Christian Falk, has an update in that regard. Apparently, United see 61-year-old manager Ralf Rangnick as an option if Solskjaer is sacked.

Furthermore, the German manager is interested in the job. Although currently not in management, Rangnick is still employed by RB Leipzig as their head of sport and development…

Rangnick has only managed in his homeland and his most notable jobs are RB Leipzig, Schalke 04 and Hoffenheim. More often than not, he has done a credible job wherever he has been – and perhaps it’s time for the German to try his hand in another country.

The problem I have with it is the timing. Solskjaer should be given until the end of the season. The Baby Faced Assassin has made some great signings and given a couple more transfer window, perhaps he can continue the good work and mould this squad into one that fits his style of play perfectly.

That said, this is a results business. Although United have been too quick to pull the trigger recently, you can only hold off the fan furore for so long…
