Manchester United Football Club unearthed an absolute gem of a talent around this time last year, when Marcus Rashford scored two goals on his full debut in the Europa League. Since then, the young forward has been a mainstay in the first-team squad, and has scored goals galore.
Under Jose Mourinho, the young Mancunian has had to settle for starting on the left-hand side of the attack, as Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been deployed as the main striker. That said, Rashford was full of praise for his strike partner in a recent interview with United’s official website.
The striker from Wythenshawe was asked about what he’s taking away from working with Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and he responded:
“I think it’s the way his mentality works. That is probably the biggest thing, not only for the young players but other players can take that from him as well.” Marcus Rashford told ManUtd.com.
“In fact, that is definitely the main thing. It’s good for the dressing room. Sometimes, if we’re down, he can pick us back up and, when we’re up, he keeps us up. Bringing in that type of player, it has been key.”
This next year or so is absolutely key for Marcus. He has to take all he can from working with an absolute legend of the game like Zlatan Ibrahimovic, because if he turns into half the player that the influential Swede is, he’ll go on to have an excellent career.
Working with Zlatan must be a real honour for all the youngsters in the dressing room, and here’s to hoping that he doesn’t mind giving them a few pointers here and there.
