Schalke have today confirmed that Spanish legend Raul will be leaving the club after a two year stay in Germany. There was an offer on the table but Raul has decided it was time to move on. Raul spent 15 seasons with Real Madrid, netting 323 times for the Spanish Giants, his record for Schalke has been equally impressive, netting 19 goals last season and 20 so far this term.
He sees himself still playing in Europe, having already conquered Spain and done a good job in Germany, maybe a move to England could be on the cards
““My sporting future is in Europe but not in the Bundesliga,” he said. “In the coming weeks we will meet and study the offers.”
Fergie has already confirmed Dimitar Berbatov is probably leaving. Also the possibility Michael Owen, and Federico Macheda could be on the way out, is Raul the answer? There is no way he would replace Wayne Rooney as number one striker, but he offers something different, Fergie in the past has opted for experience when signing Henrik Larrson and Michael Owen. Personally I think it would be a great bit of business, there is no reason why he can’t bang the goals in over here.
He, in the past has claimed he has a soft spot for England, and would one day like to play over here:
“I love the footballing culture there, the respect for the game, the atmosphere, the intensity,” he said. “I’ve been at Old Trafford, Arsenal, at Liverpool watching Fernando Morientes and it’s special. I fancied the idea. I wanted to try something different.”
Obviously being 34 he isn’t going to play every game, but he is more than capable of doing it at the highest level, it would be on a free transfer so there is little risk on our part, I think it all depends on his wages, and whether or not he can resist a big money offer from Qatar or China.
Fergie, sign him up.
