Manchester United Football Club were pretty shocking against Brighton & Hove Albion yesterday afternoon, with the Red Devils dropping their first points of the season.
Absent from the squad was Alexis Sanchez. The 29-year-old Chilean played the 90 minutes against Leicester City in the previous outing, while having an excellent pre-season tour.
However, just an hour before kick-off, Jose Mourinho confirmed that the ex-Arsenal man would miss the clash at The Amex with a ‘little injury problem’ per Sky Sports News.
Sanchez’s situation is a weird one. Obviously, he’s a fantastic player. Following his exploits in the friendlies, I expected a better performance against The Foxes. Now he’s injured, that certainly won’t help those all-important confidence levels.
Thankfully, it doesn’t sound like anything too serious and he should be back within a week or two, but whether he’s going to get himself straight back into the team is another matter entirely. That said, neither Marcus Rashford or Anthony Martial set the world alight with their displays against Brighton, either.
It’s still early on in the season, there is time to right those wrongs. Hopefully, Sanchez comes into the team and injects some belief into the rest of the squad, because things are looking pretty shambolic at this moment in time.
