As he enters his third season in a United shirt following a big money move from North-West side Blackburn Rovers. Phil Jones will be hoping for an injury-free pre-season, which should stand him in good stead for a spot in Moyes’ line-up on a regular basis.
The 21-year old has admitted that he hasn’t spoken to David Moyes about what position he’ll play in this year, but he’s just happy to be playing.
Whilst speaking to the official site, Jones said:
“We haven’t spoken about it yet [my position], but I’m sure as the tour progresses then it will arise,”
“It’s like I said last season when I was playing right-back, centre-back and centre midfield, I just enjoy playing football and if that means playing in different positions then that’s fine, I just want to play. Hopefully I can play plenty of games.”
For me his best position has to be at the heart of defence. Although last season he did some great man-marking jobs on Cristiano Ronaldo and Maroaune Fellaini in midfield. Moyes would’ve watched the latter extremely closely as he was Everton boss at that time, and he’ll have his own opinion on how best to utilise Phil.
