Manchester United have made three key signings this summer, with Jose Mourinho slowly but surely building a squad capable of challenging for the title. it comes as no secret that the gaffer wanted a fourth player, and one name linked was Sergi Roberto of FC Barcelona.
However, it seems as though the versatile Spaniard is all set for a Nou Camp stay, at least for now anyway. He was speaking to the media about his happiness on a personal level.
That’s probably because he started in a big game and he was played in his natural position.
“I’m happy, [against Real Madrid in the Super Cup] I was happy on a personal level and I felt comfortable today, too,” Roberto said, as per The Metro.
“I played in my favoured midfield position. I started at the Bernabeu and the coach has given me confidence. I’ve scored today and I want to be important.
“In pre-season I wasn’t starting, but now in the official matches I am playing more. I want to continue here and continue like this.”
At the end of the day, football transfers is no easy business. There are a lot of I’s to be dotted and T’s to be crossed, and sometimes, it’s just impossible when you try and sign certain players.
Roberto is a Barcelona academy product and even if he wanted to leave, there is probably a slim chance of that deal happening because the Catalan giants would have wanted to keep him as a rotational player at the very least.
The good news is that the 23-year-old has come out and killed the speculation early. That means this rumour won’t drag on and if Mourinho sees fit, he can move onto other potential targets.
