Rio Ferdinand claims Manchester United star will leave Old Trafford this summer

Sadly, we won’t see Manchester United Football Club take to the field for the next couple of months as our season is over. However, it couldn’t have come to an end in a more fitting way; with silverware in the form of the Europa League crown. In truth, the match was easy.

One player who didn’t take to the field on the night was Wayne Rooney. The current Manchester United captain has found minutes on the field hard to come by recently, and that could well be the deciding factor as to whether he stays a Red Devil next season.

One man who believes that the 31-year-old forward will leave Old Trafford is Rio Ferdinand. The former Red Devil had his say on the situation, and the day after the cup win, the Independent say that the centre-back thinks Wayne Rooney will move on to pastures new.

“I think it sounds like it is down to Rooney if he wants to stay, I believe he will want to go onto pastures new.” Rio Ferdinand told BT Sport viewers, quoted by the Independent.

Honestly, I couldn’t fault him if he wanted to leave. At the end of the day, he obviously feels like he is at that point in his career where regular football is a must.

This is a player who has become used to starting pretty much every game in his club career, and to be sitting on the bench must be quite hard for him to do. With that said, he just hasn’t been good enough when he has taken to the field and watching his fall from grace has been quite hard to witness if I’m being honest.

Jose Mourinho isn’t a sentimental guy, and if the boss is of the opinion that ‘Wazza’ is no longer worth keeping around, he will not be scared of wielding the axe and moving him on.
