Romelu Lukaku explains gesture towards Everton fans after Man United victory

What a stunning acquisition Romelu Lukaku has been so far. The star striker has scored seven goals for Manchester United across all competitions already, and the scary thing is that it’s only mid-September. On Sunday, the 24-year-old found the back of the net against his former employers, Everton.

As soon as Lukaku took to the field he was getting booed by Toffees fans who no doubt cheered him every week until a couple of months ago. Throughout the match, he was jeered every single time he touched the ball, none more so than when his free-kick flew straight into the wall.

However, instant karma struck as after the ball was played back in, Lukaku stuck it into the back of the net, before gesturing ‘I can’t hear you’ to the Everton fans. Then, after the match, our £75million shed some light on the situation.

It’s another goal, really, but I’m happy with the win and staying near the top of the league.” Lukaku is quoted as saying by Sky Sports News.

“It’s just a bit of banter, with the free-kick I missed, they booed me. It’s just football. “

At the end of the day, if the Everton fans can’t take it then why give it? It’s just football, and if they really still expect Lukaku to not retaliate then that’s rather daft.

He’s well within his rights to give them a bit of stick back, and as he says, there are no hard feelings, it was just a bit of banter.

I’m so pleased that Mourinho sanctioned the big-money move to bring in Lukaku. He has been truly brilliant so far. We lacked that clinical forward last term, and the Belgian just gives us that extra dimension and cutting edge when going forward.
