Manchester United Football Club have, funnily enough, made the best Champions League start out of the English clubs. Jose Mourinho’s men sit on four points after two outings.
However, their two hardest fixtures come back-to-back in game-weeks three and four. The Red Devils will take on Cristiano Ronaldo’s Juventus, in what is expected to be an excellent couple of matches.
All eyes will be on Ronaldo’s homecoming. The game itself will be an extremely tough match-up, but it’ll be an intriguing watch. Going against the very best is the ultimate way to see exactly where you’re at in terms of progression. This is a huge game for the self-proclaimed Special One.
Before the encounter, striker Romelu Lukaku has identified Juventus’ three main men, including the aforementioned Ronaldo…
‘They are a great project, they never stop, every year they aim to become stronger,’ the Belgian striker told Gazzetta dello Sport, per The Metro. ‘Without any doubt, they are one of the 2-3 strongest teams in the world, an excellent coach on the bench and players extraordinary in every department.’
‘Cristiano is the best player, but we have to also give attention to others. Dybala is already very strong and growing, while I have a soft spot for Costa.’
Paulo Dybala is a player I love watching. The man from Argentina truly does get bums on seats due to the sheer excitement he brings to the game. As for Douglas Costa, he’ll no doubt have a run at Luke Shaw and Antonio Valencia. Our full-backs will have to be on their A-game to deal with his trickery and sheer speed.
Ultimately, these games should end up being the battle to top the group. United simply have to hold their own at Old Trafford. A win in that one gives us an excellent chance at finishing in first place, but it’s not going to be easy. Ronaldo’s homecoming is going to be brilliant for the fans. No doubt he’ll relish the moment, but as soon as that whistle goes, it’s business only. We have to do our bit and roar them home.
