Romelu Lukaku won’t play against Inter Milan, Solskjaer says

Manchester United’s pre-season tour continues with a game against Inter Milan tomorrow, with the Red Devils ramping it up a notch in terms of opponent quality.

For me, what was most intriguing was whether Romelu Lukaku would play for the Red Devils amid continuing doubts about his long-term future at Old Trafford.

Well, now we know the answer, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirming that the 26-year-old star will not play against the Serie A giants Inter tomorrow. According to the BBC’s Simon Stone, Lukaku isn’t fit and he ‘won’t be available’…

After previously claiming that Lukaku should be fit to take on Leeds United on Wednesday, Solskjaer has now ruled him out of the Inter game… Forgive me believe there’s more going on than meets the eye.

Perhaps Lukaku’s mindset isn’t right at the moment, which would be understandable given the constant links to Inter Milan. It seems to me as if the 26-year-old does want the move to happen, and given the fact that he’s now dropped behind Marcus Rashford in the pecking order, it does make sense that he wants to leave…

For United, though, I don’t think they’ll be tempted into selling Lukaku for less than the £75million that they paid to sign him. After all, the player is under contract and I don’t think Solskjaer would be too bothered if the deal doesn’t happen as United’s #9 certainly knows where the back of the net is!
