RvP wants Rooney to stay Red

Whilst speaking to The Sun, Robin van Persie admitted that he’s desperate for want-away striker Wayne Rooney to stay at Old Trafford. He also added that one of the reasons he joined the club was due to Rooney. Robin believes that his strike partner is a ‘strong lad’ and will come good again.

Van Persie said:

“Everyone wants Wayne to stay and deep down I think he feels the same.

“One of the reasons I joined Manchester United was to play with Wayne.

“I hope he stays. Not only is he a great goalscorer, he does so much work across the pitch.

Rooney’s future has been up in the air since the back-end of last season when old boss Sir Alex Ferguson confirmed he wanted to leave. Since then though, Moyes has remained adamant that the England international isn’t for sale. Van Persie admitted that Rooney is definitely one of Manchester United’s assets, and its in the clubs best interests to keep him.

“He hates to lose and that’s why you see him one minute pressing for goal, the next minute defending ferociously. He is an asset to any team.

“He will come good again. He is a strong lad.”

The Dutchman is expected to start in the Community Shield today.
