Scott McTominay reveals he still keeps in contact with ‘special’ Jose Mourinho

Manchester United have their fair share of problems at the moment – both on and off the field. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad is being decimated by injury, while results certainly aren’t where our fans would like them to be…

However, there have been a few positives. Amongst those is Scott McTominay’s brilliant form. The young midfielder has been putting in some top-drawer performances of late and it’s always great to see homegrown products succeed at the highest level.

For that, Jose Mourinho deserves some credit. The self-proclaimed Special One slowly integrated the 22-year-old midfielder into the first-team and without him, perhaps the Scotland international wouldn’t be where he is today.

Anyway, while speaking to the media, McTominay has shed some light on the ‘special’ relationship that the pair share. It’s nice that they still keep in regular contact while the player will always remain eternally grateful.

‘I obviously don’t want to speak too much about previous managers but Jose’s very special to me. He still keeps in contact with me now and keeps in touch with me after some games.” McTominay told Sky Sports’ YouTube channel.

‘He’ll always have a special place in mine and my family’s heart because he was the one who brought you in, he was the one who trusted you, he’s the one who had belief in you.

‘I owe a tremendous amount of credit to him because if it wasn’t for him I might not necessarily be sat in this seat.’

At this point it’s a given that McTominay has overtaken Nemanja Matic in the defensive-midfield pecking order and the more he plays you’ll only imagine our 22-year-old will only improve.

For a man so young, McTominay certainly speaks very well. It’s great to see him remaining grounded despite a sudden rise to fame and who knows, perhaps we could be talking about a future Red Devils captain here…
